It’s mid-summer in Cape Town and, although most of us have returned to work after the holidays, there’s still ample opportunity to enjoy the great weather and late sunsets. Cape Town’s summers are legendary among sun-loving locals and tourists who want to get a bit of a tan before winter’s cold touch is felt again.
If getting sand all over you isn’t really you’re thing, the best option is a sunlounger, like this Tendo model available from Terrace Living.
We’ve scouted the area and have put together our pick of the best spots in and around Cape Town for sunbathers:
The pool at One&Only Cape Town
Right in the middle of the trendy V&A Waterfront precinct you’ll find the luxurious One&Only Cape Town resort. It sports a huge pool surrounded by comfortable sunloungers, which are normally inhabited by the world’s rich and famous. And with Isola conveniently situated right next to the pool, you can get a refreshing cocktail and a bite to eat without having to even get up.
Clifton Fourth Beach
This spot hardly needs an introduction – Clifton’s Fourth Beach is consistently rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. While there’s never a lack of sun-worshippers at this beach, lying on the fine sand can be uncomfortable for some. Cue the sunloungers available to rent from the vendors on the beach. While the white plastic is hardly elegant, it does allow you to enjoy all the beauty and excitement of this famous beach without getting sand all over you.
The deck at Mandela Rhodes Place
This inner-city gem is located across the road from the Company Gardens and St George’s Church and sports a beautiful pool deck on the seventh floor. While not overlooking any of Cape Town’s beaches, this hotel does have the distinction of allowing guests to gaze out at Table Mountain and listen to the sounds of the city while they relax.
